Aug 7th's Planning Commission Meeting - Thoughts & Recap

Suburban Ford needs more parking, and Ferndale residents need them to be a good neighbor

Thanks to Ian Williamson for making an announcement on the forums about the incredibly important planning commission meeting tonight.

Michael R Valentine is doing a fantastic job of detailing the issues surrounding Suburban's parking lot expansion request. I've spent a considerable amount of time on Wordsworth, Channing, Silman, and Jewell talking to residents and seeing first hand the issues created by having a large, busy dealership at the end of your street.

The resounding outcry from residents is that Suburban is not living up to our 'good neighbor' standards.

The Planning Commission is not responsible for enforcement, and the laundry list of enforcement issues against Suburban is staggering. They are blatantly speeding down streets, using the homes they purchased for business purposes, littering, redirecting water into basements via alleys, leaving the homes they purchased blighted and vacant, and dismissing residents concerns. People have been reporting this for YEARS, and SeeClickFix reports sometimes don't get code involved fast enough. The system is broken.

I sincerely hope our city administration takes these issues to heart. We need staff that is willing to followup and advocate for residents now.

If you live in the neighborhood I'd love to hear your thoughts on implementing resident only parking, implementing speed bumps to reduce traffic speed, as well as any other thoughts you might have on how we can best address this and make Suburban live up to the good neighbor standard we expect residents to adhere to. I've taken a ton of notes and will be writing up my official stance on my campaign page Laura Mikulski for Ferndale
